Paradigm PoP

Friendly software tools for small and medium sized companies

Not Solving World Hunger

The making of PoP Project has been quite a journey. I started with some very firm ideas on what it'd look like when done. E.g. it would have interfaces to some popular project management tools. It would have some very intricate and tight workflow management. It would be a very complete, much sought after project management tool.

Then as I talked to my friends, colleagues, and project managers, my attitudes began to change. First off, it seemed to me that not many teams were really using their PM tools completely. They were putting all the gory details in them to create an intermediate product that'd make their management happy while they themselves focused on their software development. These tools were mere task joggers at best and task impeders at worst! I thought smart teams did not need those. My own tool had to be different.

Now when I look at PoP Project, it's a completely different tool as compared to what I had in mind initially. This is not even a project management tool anymore. It has turned out to be more like a project orchestration tool, a task jogger++. There is a lot of learning in this for me. As my company moves forward, I will not think of trying to solve world hunger. I will make the next recipe that my users can eat and serve it well. Then I will think some more, make some more, and repeat.
